At Conway Equestrian, we have the knowledge, experience and specialised machinery to help you make your equine construction projects a reality … in a timely and cost effective manner.
As a family owned and operated company, we take great pride in our workmanship and thus have built a reputation for excellence, reliability and exceptional customer service. Our parent company, M J Conway Ltd, has over 40 years experience in all forms of construction and groundwork projects.
We have constructed and installed a wide range of equestrian facilities, ranging from arenas to stables blocks, from muck bins to exercise pens and everything else in between. Whatever the project, big or small, we can help deliver it to the standards you require.
Arena Construction
Every arena project is unique and bespoke to the client’s requirements. We only work with reputable suppliers of quality equine approved aggregates and materials, such as Day Equestrian, thus being able to focus on delivering outstanding arenas that perform.
We use the same specialised laser grading attachment on both our outdoor and indoor arena constructions and renovations, to help produce an even and exact finished footing. This automated machine does the levelling for us and allows for a faster, more accurate installation.
As with any construction project, what lies below the ground is of equal importance to that seen above. We have vast experience in all aspects of drainage and foundation construction, and operate highly accurate measuring instruments so we can build to tight tolerances and exacting grades.
There is no limit on our capabilities. We can produce an arena to any size or specification you require, whether your focus is dressage, show jumping or you just want a general training area. We are also able to assist with any planning application by providing all the relevant scaled drawings of the area and its siting required for submission.
Arena Maintenance and Renovations
On-going arena care is essential for the usability and longevity of the facility. If left untouched, over a period of time the arena footing material will migrate and rut out in areas of intense use, giving a very inconsistent ride for the horse. We have all the equipment and machinery needed to regrade an existing arena surface and can offer a regular maintenance service should you not have access to suitable machinery yourself.
We are happy to help with any renovation work on an existing arena you have, whether that’s a simple top up of additional footing material, remedial drainage works or even an extension of an existing arena. If you need assistance or advice, we are here to help.
Fencing, Gates and Hedging
A staple of our equine fencing work is installing miles of post and rail each year, both in tanalised timber and pressure creosote treated form. However, we are well versed in all forms of fence construction from closeboard to chainlink, from continuous weld estate to stock wire. So, whatever your fencing or gate requirements, we are able to help.
There has been a steady increase in demand for hedging to be planted around paddock boundaries and arenas, not only for screening purposes but to help improve security. We also have the machines to help reduce or maintain any existing hedging. Our excavator flail attachment allows us to get into areas a standard tractor cannot. Likewise, our tree shear attachment is often used to reduce an overgrown hedge and bring it back to a manageable shape and size.
Stable Construction
With over 40 years in the construction industry, our team possess the experience, skill and knowledge to fulfil any building requirements you have. We are happy to advise and assist on foundations, concrete stable bases, drainage, excavations, demolition of existing structures, choice of materials and more.
We have assisted on many new stable blocks and American barn base constructions and have worked closely with clients and manufactures alike on their exact slab requirements, as well as other hardstanding areas around the yard including wash down facilities, mucking out clamps, horse walkers, car parking, paving to name but a few.

Irrigation
A fundamental part of a successful menage install is the inclusion of an irrigation system to help keep the sub-angular silica sand footing base moist. Some premium products, such as waxed sand mixes, are less reliant on moisture for them to hold up and not dust during use. However, even these top end blends can benefit from the addition of moisture in certain conditions.
We have designed and installed a variety of irrigation systems over the years, both manually operated or fully automatic. Most sprinkler circuits are mains water fed, but we have seen an increase in demand for our combination of rainwater harvesting and arena catchment recycling installations. Conway Equestrian can help advise, design and install a simple to use system which benefits both the horse and rider.
Gallops
If you have the space and need to construct a gallop, or want to extend or amend an existing training track, then we have the team, machines and expertise to make it happen. We can offer a wide range of surface options manufactured by Day Equestrian. These include their premixed wax sand and fibre blends that will withstand heavy use in all weather conditions.
As with our arena work, we can offer a complete start to finish turnkey service, including design, excavation, drainage, footing installation and fencing.
If you have an existing run, we can help maintain the surface with periodic maintenance or re-surface areas over time when required.
All of our gallop surfaces are safe and stable for your horse to run on at speed. They will give your equine partner the perfect place to exercise and train all year round, which is a pleasure especially with such varied UK weather.
Lighting and Power
With the evolution of low wattage, high lumen, LED lighting, illuminating your horse arena and stable yard has never been easier. There is a huge selection of internal and external lights to choose from, so we can help you find the perfect balance between size, output and cost.
We can also design and install off grid power solutions for those arenas and stable yards that are unconnected or out of the way.
